Do you have a particular quilt or piece of work that you saw at a show that stays with you? I do…
I have been visiting various quilt exhibitions now for quite some time and always love the work and talent on display BUT….there is one quilt that I still think about to this day and is the one quilt I would have bought given the opportunity (and funds!).
I first saw this gorgeous creation by Lisa Walton exhibited at Festival of Quilts in 2009 and fell totally in love with it. It’s made with hand dyed cotton, velvet and silk organza.
I stood looking at it for ages and this is the photo I took which I promise does not do the colours and textures enough justice.
This is a close up of the stitching.
Sometime after this (2012 I think) I was fortunate to do a workshop with Lisa at Frodsham as part of Quilters’ Guild Region 13 Regional Day and I told her how much I had liked and still like this quilt and to my disappointment she said it had been sold. A gentleman in Australia had bought it – lucky him!
You may be wondering if I have finished the piece I started at the workshop.
Let’s just say it is ‘Still Under Construction’ (erm unfortunately it’s not alone). Writing this post has made me dig out the folder with all the fabric in and I really would like to get it ‘Under My Needle’ again as the workshop was fab and I love the way the pieces I actually did turned out. Let me know if you would like to see more, it might make me pull my finger out!
Do you have a favorite quilt, if so what is it and why?
Thank you for stopping by, it is much appreciated…
