Work made with ‘Painted Fusible Web’

Image

I taught a class recently and wanted the group to see how the ‘Painted Fusible Web’ could be used in their work so I created samples to give them some ideas, some of which are described below.

This is a simple example where a single piece of painted web was cut with a rotary cutter to create straight edges, the middle section rotated 180 degrees and then ironed onto fabric. I used purple and silver metallic acrylic paint.

You can also play with the orientation to create different looks.

I absolutely love the visual texture and patterns you can create with this technique.  In this example the painted web was torn around the edges and ironed onto a card blank  (A6 size landscape).  More embellishment could be added but I really liked the pattern and decided to leave it as it was.Painted Fusible Web on white card by t r a c y f o x

This is the same idea but using black card instead of white.  I had to think a little more carefully about the colours to use to make sure they could be seen against the dark colour. Lots of gorgeous metallic acrylic paint in this one.Painted Fusible Web on black card by t r a c y f o x

And perhaps my favorite. Again I painted a single piece of fusible web and then ripped it into smaller pieces, spacing them out with increasingly bigger gaps between, ironed onto weight cotton fabric and then created a quilt sandwich.  I then free motion quilted the 3 layers together again increasing the space between the rows of stitching.

Class: Painted Fusible Web

Image

A great time was had by all (especially me!) on Thursday evening this week at Phil Langford’s lovely shop Patchwork Parade in Chadderton where I was kindly invited to teach Painted Fusible Web and Blue Foam Block Printing.

We started with Painted Fusible Web and here are some photos from the class hard at work.

I shared some samples I had made, gave them instructions and a demonstration of how to paint the Bondaweb (piece below) and they were away!Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible painted 3Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible painting 1Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible painting 2Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible painted 1Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible painted 2

Because the painted pieces need to be left to dry completely, I had prepared some in advance so the group would be able to move onto the next stage.

Once the design was decided upon it was time to iron the composition onto card and fabric.Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible ironed 2Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible ironed 3Class at Patchwork Parade Painted Fusible ironed 4

And of course the background fabric doesn’t have to be white..

I am so looking forward to seeing the finished results.

If you would like to know more about booking this class with me, please email me at tracyjanefox@hotmail.com

Patchwork Parade (postcode OL9 9SH) stock Bondaweb so if you fancy having a go then you can purchase it there.  Why not give them a visit and see what else they can tempt you with!

I will do a separate post about the Blue Foam Block Printing we did, showing you more of the groups fabulous work at the class.

Thank you for stopping by, it is much appreciated…
