‘Under My Needle’: Basted hand dyed cotton

Image

This hand dyed piece of cotton is basted and ready for some serious free motion quilting.  For the first time I decide to do a little marking to break up the 20 inch square piece into sections and I am planning on doing a different design in each.  It is destined to become a cushion…unless I change my mind of course.Under My Needle Purple Cushion basted by t r a c y f o x

made using Hand Dyed with Rust by Sue Warburton

Image

I have been promising to show you work made using a piece from the Hand Dyed with Rust collection and here it is.Sue Warburton Now Is The Time made using rust fabric from t r a c y f o x

The fabric has become the center panel as you can see, bordered with gorgeous African fabric that works perfectly.

So what’s the story I hear you ask, well…

Last March at the 2nd Annual Patchwork Quilting and Craft Fair in Oldham, the very talented Sue Warburton bought the rust fabric from me and as soon as she saw it she told me that she knew exactly what she wanted to do with it.

She also very kindly offered to loan me the finished work to display on my stand which I have recently done and to share it with you here on my blog.

Sue has added more surface design using a range of techniques including..

machine embroidery motif..Sue Warburton Now Is The Time machine embroidery made using rust fabric from t r a c y f o x

applique..

text…

I am always drawn to work that has text in it and what has been stitched really resonates with me..

If you look closely in each image, you will be able to see the subtle stenciling of cogs and numbers and of course free motion quilting.

Perhaps my favorite (there is so much to choose from) is the cheeky little key which reminds me of an old wardrobe that my Nanna had when I was a kid because it had a key just like this.

Huge thanks goes to Sue for loaning me her gorgeous work and agreeing to share it on my blog.

I will give it back…I promise!!

I thought about it for quite a while as I was a little worried about how much time it would take up when I could be in ‘My Room of Requirements’ instead.

Once I started thinking about it though, I had tons of ideas (no surprise there then) so I just did it.

Set Up Day at Event City

Image

I have not long returned home from a long day setting up my stand for the start of the Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycrafts Show which starts tomorrow at Event City and have just finished doing some extra jobs!

You would think I have a stand the size of a house the amount of time it has taken to display the fabrics.

It started out looking like this….

How it looked when we left…

A huge thank you to Our Linda (Little Sister), I couldn’t do it without her.

Hope you enjoy the show if you are attending.
